Inexpensive Samsung phones

We’ve recently called into question what is truly valuable in a smartphone. The Galaxy A31 and A11 are Samsung’s attempts at answering this question.

Unfortunately, it seems like Samsung is once again prioritising cramming in as many (likely mediocre) cameras as possible. I have very strong feelings about this, and perhaps I shall write a separate article about it.

Manufacturers should really stop putting in four cameras on their phones when it means compromises in other more important aspects, such as the processor and screen. Extra focal lengths can be good, but not useless macro and depth cameras.

Just glancing through the specs, I’m quite surprised that the use of a TFT display on the A11. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a TFT display; they’re pretty bad. For S$198 there are other budget phones from companies like Xiaomi with much better displays. Just for the TFT display alone, I might be a bit cautious about the A11.
