After gaining momentum in Southeast Asia and India, the Apple of China strikes again, this time in the tablet front. The Mi Pad – Xiaomi’s answer to the iPad mini 2 – will be on sale next Tuesday, 10 Feb, for S$299.

You better be sitting down for what you’re about to read next, because once again, Xiaomi is going to make you reconsider every idea you once had about what constitutes “cheap”. For less than 300 dollars, you’re going to get one of the few tablets running on Nvidia’s K1 processor, a screen that rivals the iPad, and darn good battery life. Yeah, we’re talking about a graphics processor that has the same Kepler architecture as some very high-end desktop graphics cards.

Here are the key specs:

  • NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core 2.2GHz
  • 192-core Kepler GPU
  • 7.9″ IPS Full HD 326 PPI, Gorilla Glass 3
  • 2GB LPDDR3 RAM, 16GB Flash (128GB expandable)
  • 8MP BSI camera f/2.0, 5MP front camera
  • Dual band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, 2×2 MIMO antenna
  • 6700mAh Lithium-ion Polymer battery

As usual, the Mi Pad flash sale will be over… in a flash. Good luck to those of you who want to get your hands on one. Head over to Mi Singapore’s website on Tuesday to try your luck at purchasing it. Unfortunately, only the white option will be available.

In other news, the Xiaomi Mi 4 still hasn’t hit Singapore shores, but Xiaomi has confirmed that the newly-announced Mi Note flagship will make its way onto Singapore shores in Q2.
