Fleksy — the best keyboard an iPhone can have

One of the great things about iOS 8 was that Apple finally opened up keyboards to third party developers. And while most of you will be content with the default iOS keyboard or with the more famous SwiftKey, there is one keyboard that I’ve found to be truly exceptional.

It’s called Fleksy. I’ve been using it for almost a year now and it’s hands down the best keyboard I’ve ever used on iOS, and possibly the best keyboard I’ve ever used on any operating system.

Unlike most free keyboards found on iOS and Android, this one is fully customisable to your liking. There’s a custom theme builder for you to use, allowing you to completely change the look and feel of your keyboard. You can change the colour, add a background picture, and even change the pop-up effect of your keys. Of course, there are also tons of free and paid pre-made themes for you to choose from. You can even adjust the size of the keyboard, and pick between a minimalist design (which omits a spacebar completely) or the default one.

Fleksy also comes with extensions. The ones that I personally use are the rainbow pops (every time you type the keys cycle between the 7 colours of the rainbow), and cursor control (allows you to control the cursor by pressing and holding on the spacebar and shifting your finger around). New extensions keep coming and they allow you to add new functionality to your keyboard. This is something which I’ve found to be unique to Fleksy.

Lastly, Fleksy comes with amazing gesture controls which make typing a whole lot easier. Delete entire words by swiping left, cycle between word suggestions by swiping up and down, and even add words to your personal dictionary by typing it out and swiping up. It takes awhile to get used to, but once you do, it becomes extremely intuitive and fast.

The best part, of course, is that the keyboard is completely free on iOS. Honestly, I can’t believe it’s free. The downside? The usage of swiping gestures means that this isn’t a swype-like keyboard like the one on SwiftKey. But honestly, I prefer typing on Fleksy than on anything else. This is a product which I’ve been using for a really long time and it pains me to see so many people around me typing so sluggishly on the default iOS keyboard. I highly recommend that you try it out.
