The Redmi 1S, a slightly upgraded version of the wildly popular Redmi, will be available in the coming weeks. Update: The 1s will be available on 8 July for $169 alongside the Redmi Note
Readers who were put off by the Redmi’s Mediatek MT6589 will be glad to know that the Redmi 1S will come with the more familiar Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, clocked at 1.6 GHz. In addition, the 1S will come with 8 GB internal storage, up from the 4 GB in the original Redmi, and Bluetooth 4.0, an upgrade over the Redmi’s Bluetooth 3.0.
The 1S will be launched in Singapore and Malaysia at the same time in the coming weeks. Currently retailing at 799 Yuan in China, readers can expect it to be slightly more expensive than the $169 Redmi which retails for 699 Yuan in China, but the price remains an extremely attractive one.
Do keep an eye out for updates on availability here at our site or over at Xiaomi Singapore’s Facebook page, and stay tuned for our review of the Redmi.
