Just a week after Android 4.4 KitKat was launched, Sony has become the first smartphone manufacturer to announce their Android 4.4 Firmware upgrade roadmap. This comes just as the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean rollout for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V, and Xperia Tablet Z begins.
The Xperia Z1, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Tablet Z, however, are now also slated to get the latest 4.4 KitKat update in the not too distant future.
The KitKat version of Android OS is designed to fit on devices with low RAM, as low as 512MB, in an attempt to curb the fragmentation that has plagued Android since its inception. It thus promises to be a much smoother experience for all. This being the case, it is interesting that Sony has left out their mid-range phones, namely the Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V, especially since they are slated for the 4.3 upgrade. Is this the end of the line for these phones, or will Sony announce a 4.4 upgrade for them some time in the future?
