According to a post on ePrice, the new HTC Butterfly 2 is a waterproof handset, it will have a 5.2-inch 1080P display and Snapdragon 800 processor. Other rumors also claim that the Butterfly 2 will be announced in January 2014, we can expect a little more information about it.
The post also reveals a little about a new iteration of the HTC One. All three new handsets have been listed as HTC J <model name>. This is probably a temporary name for all three devices.
If the Butterfly 2 is certainly waterproof, it will emerge as an extremely strong contender to the Xperia Z1. However, the Xperia Z1 may have an edge with its camera there, as HTC’s UltraPixel arrangement is extremely poor compared to other devices’ photos.
The photo above seems to be of the Butterfly 2. It shows a probable revamped BlinkFeed, HTC’s social media center, as well as flatter icons. The colour tone has also become cooler compared to the current Butterfly S.
Surprisingly, it is not packing a fingerprint sensor, as was seen on the HTC One Max. Not only that, the back reveals that at the time of this prototype’s manufacture, Beats audio was still a prominent part of HTC branding. As you might have read, Beats have decided to buy back HTC’s share in them for $265 million USD.
The Butterfly 2 is expected to be released somewhere in January 2014, especially with the slew of new flagships being released in these few months.
